OK…so we’ve had a nostalgia festival this afternoon here at TMM, and have been throwing out ideas as to what should be the best TV from our childhoods. It’s been a bit of a brain dump, so we’ve arranged them in no particular order and would like to know what you think is the best.
1) Clarissa Explains It All – “nnnaaa naaa naaaaa naaaaaa, alright, alright!”. We would never have remembered how it went unless we looked it up. We also didn’t realise asĀ children how much her dad was punching above his weight.
2) Dinosaurs – Took a while to kick in, but when it did the memories came flooding back.
3) Mighty Morphin Power Rangers - Sorry for the obvious choice, but we just couldn’t get away from the brilliance of this tune. It transports us to a time when it was OKĀ to say “radical” about things without looking like a tool.
4) Johnny Bravo – Set’s the tone perfectly for the show.
5) Through the Dragon’s Eye – This used to be on in certain schools, and not others. It was the postcode lottery of it’s day. The Look and Read intro should be fairly familiar to everyone though.
6) Demon Headmaster – Fuck me this is scary. I still feel a bit freaked out when I see Jack Straw because of his uncanny resemblance.
7) Eerie Indiana – Continuing on the theme of shows that meant we couldn’t venture upstairs on our own as kids, comes this freaky little number. Deliberately disturbing beyond what a kid’s show should be.
Where On Earth Is Carmen San Diego? – For some reason not everyone remembers this. It was a real comfort blanket for a nerd though as it’s the first TV show we can remember them being portrayed as cool.
9) Woof – There are about 15 different boys who played woof, each with their own theme. We can’t distinguish so just have this one.
9) Chronicle of Narnia – Understated and 100% BBC
10) Keenan & Kel - This started it all by trending on Twitter today. Happy to say we could recite about 80% of this once it got started.
11) Dexter’s Lab – Caused a bit of controversy with those that didn’t have sky, but it’s gone in anyway despite protests it was some sort of bourgeois rebellion.
12) Button Moon – No list would be complete without including this classic.
13) Raggydolls – This is still probably the most touching theme tune ever made. Children are worse off for not having this message playing to them twice a week at 3.30pm.
14) The Racoons If this came on in a night club, you know it would get everyone up on the floor.
15) Banana Man – This reminded us of Superted too. In the end we decided just to put this one in. Sorry to Ted and of course spotty.
16) Thunder Cats – About every six months someone will put this on YouTube and everyone will gather round and say “oh we haven’t heard this in years”. Still, it’s up there with the best.
17) Inspector Gadget Don’t screw up your eyes. Try to remember a time before the film came out and did its best to sully your childhood.
18) Sister Sister – The girls seem to have disappeared off the map straight after the show. Unlike Roger who went to be in several B movies.
19) Captain Planet – This spawned a 20 minute discussion. At the end it was agreed that the kid with the power to feel the emotions of animals had the worst.
20) Ren and Stimpy – Really this wasn’t a kids show, and we were always a bit shocked it was on next to the Fresh Prince.
Well, that’s it. Bit knacked after uploading them – yet it’s still one of the most enjoyable posts ever.
