DIY labels have been on the rise over the last couple of years – and in Glasgow a small outfit are producing some top notch stuff. Armelodie records stated off as self promotion for Le Reno Amps, but in their three years have seen a stable built around them.
Their whole philosophy is to go against the tepid wank that permeates much of popular music (I’m not having a go at “pop” music…Im talking about all popular genres). And in this aim, they succeed.
Here’s a couple of snippets from them:
THIRTY POUNDS OF BONE – CRACK SHANDY IN THE HARBOUR
How rare for a band to be gritty without crossing the line into being self pitying. It’s a well trodden subject matter – but the sincerity and accuracy of the lyrics are of an artist who has observed the minutiae of their subject matter. This was taken from their upcoming album method, released on the 6th of December.
THE SCOTTISH ENLIGHTENMENT – NECROMANCER
We love the sinister, atmospheric tone on this record. Never heard a band propose a story about falling in love with someone everyone thinks has died either. Bold and original. This is taken from their album St Thomas which is already out.
