Attempted genocide in the Darfur region of Sudan is one of the most silent atrocities of our time. The current climate of cynicism and loss of trust in politicians in regards to foreign affairs has led the British political parties to give this humanitarian issue a wide berth. No peace agreement has been reached.
On January 11 2011 the Southern part of the country will vote to decided whether they will remain part of the country or form an independent country. This is part of a wider agreement, the “Comprehensive Peace Agreement”. However many parts of this agreement have not been implemented, causing tension between the South and North, with the Western Darfur situation still raging.
As the referendum approaches many fear things will get worse. Sudan 365 is a movement set up to help raise awareness in the year leading up to the referendum.
On 19th September 2010 famous drummers released a new music video as part of the global Sudan365 campaign. The track includes Phil Selway of Radiohead, Jonny Quinn of Snow Patrol, Stewart Copeland of The Police, Nick Mason of Pink Floyd, the renown Egyptian drummer Yehia Khalil and Mustapha Tettey Addy from Ghana.
