Noel Gallagher was fairly outspoken when Glasto made a move towards Hip Hop with Jay Z. We’re betting that he’s not going to be please that now Rihanna seems to be eyeing up the festival this summer. Speaking to Q Magazine she said:
“I’d love to play Glastonbury. I have heard so many things about what happens there. I love rock music. I love Kings of Leon and The Prodigy. You could have nightmares about that guy with the clown face and the weird hair [Keith Flint]. That’s a look to scare little kids, right?
“But the music is awesome. I like the more traditional rock bands, too: Aerosmith and Bon Jovi. I think I could rock the stage at Glastonbury, no question.”
“I know since Jay-Z played they are open to a lot more R&B. And ‘Umbrella’ would be the perfect song for that place too.”
Glastonbury’s at a turning point this year. Now, as a pop site we’d normally lean towards saying it should be completely open to pop. We’re not sure though that the festival wouldn’t be losing something by doing this. There is a tradition of guitar music at the festival and it would be a shame to lose this. Given that Glastonbury was slow to sell out when Jay-Z headlined, there may be some hope for those who want Rihanna’s offer to be ignored.
Still, we do like her alot.
