We Reckon Brian McFadden Wishes He Was Still In Westlife

Brian McFadden

Westlife are not quite the force they once were in pop – but they’ve still got a loyal base of fans who will no doubt be lapping up the tour they are just about to kick off. So what of the prodigal son? What of the Robbie of the band? We talk of course of Brian McFadden. While his ex Kerry Katona puts her crazy antics behind her, it seems her return to sanity has an inverse relationship with Brian’s own mental state. If you haven’t head it yet, here’s his latest attempt at a solo record:

Wow. What an awful song. Mixing a horrible tinny electro sound with a banjo in the chorus actually hurts to listen to. If you’re going to make a song with controversial lyrics…then you better make sure you do it in a stylish way to get away with it. This is a big fail.

So what of the lyrics? Well here’s a quote: I like you just the way you are, drunk in the back seat of my car” and another one “drunk as s*** dancing at the bar”.

Ha! OK calling it a date rape song is a bit much and he’s said so recently: “I do not want this song played on the radio or being sold to profit myself if people think it’s about ‘date rape’. It’s not about date rape.”

He’s also said he feels sick at the negative coverage of his song. Fair enough, it was not serious. It was a tongue in cheek reference to what goes on in clubs up and down the country all the time. The problem is, if you’re going to fly so close to the wind, you have to do it really well. This wasn’t witty at all.

We’re predicting this will be the end of his career. Being in Westlife gives you huge kudos, and you can get record deals off that for quite a while. When a video shoot for one of your songs is cancelled though, you should be expecting your p45 in the post. He doesn’t deserve a kicking or to be portrayed as some sort of monster, just a kind of sad shake of the head at a ludicrous project.

Still…room for one more on that Westlife tour?
