We hadn’t seen this! She doesn’t seem even the littlest bit embarrassed – but then again she does seem to sing “Saturday is Friday” at about 1.20. I feel sorry for the guy on the piano who looks like a kid trying to hide a laugh in church. Overall this clip this has a bit of a creepy sort of cult like feel. The slightly threatening man standing up forcing the children on the couch to cheer adds to the sinister nature. Also one of the kids has a “Children of the Corn” feel about him.
I don’t think I can remember something trending for as long as Rebecca Black. It’s been going on for two weeks now – so we popped over to Google Insights to see the search volume for her name. Here’s what it said:
Seems the interest around her has been enough to make her a “breakout” term. At the moment she’s got over 36 million views on YouTube too. This looks like it could be one of the most hated (and secretly loved) songs of all time.
I don’t think anyone wants her not to release a second song, and the only way for that to happen really is for her particular brand of pop to be very profitable. On this front we shouldn’t be disappointed. Firstly, her parents only paid £1,200 for Arc Music Factory to make this song. It’s estimated she will only make £12,000 from the YouTube views – however iTunes downloads will be the jewel in the crown. Here she’s managed to rack up over 2 million downloads which will net her around £850,000 and we’re pretty sure this will go over the million mark. She’s already a millionaire in US dollars.
There’s bound therefore to be all sorts of labels ready to offer her contracts galore. Simon Cowell, never averse to putting commercials over song quality or his own reputation, has even said he’s a fan going so far as to call her a “geinus”. We wouldn’t disagree.
It is being reported too that an acoustic version of the Friday video is going to be given full release too which will surely mean adding another half a million onto this total. Actually feeling quite excited as a second song seems almost inevitable.
