Nicola Roberts' Solo Career Gets A Boost

We all know Cheryl Cole has friends in high places, namely Will.i.am and Simon Cowell. However, Nicola Roberts must have somebody looking out for her too. Just a few days after officially revealing she will be releasing her first solo single, Beat Of My Drum on June 5th, she has landed a bit score in terms of self promotion as MTV have announced that she will be interviewing the queen of pop herself, Lady Gaga.

So will this give Nicola a helpful kick start her career or will she end up doing a Nadine. Well first of all look at this promo shot for her release:

Nicola Roberts

Pretty scorching right? Gone are the days when they decided to shoe horn her into the pop star mould. Fake tan and blonde highlights no more. She long ago embraced her pale beauty and it’s working well for her. It was a bit of a road to Damascus moment for Nicola when she realised she could just be “true to herself” (a bullshit phrase we know, but fairly accurate in this case). When she had a snipe back at Chris Moyle’s maligning her appearance, it became obvious to all she had resolved to be her own person and not to bow to the rubbish the media threw at her.

Rather than doing a Jessie J style in your face “i’m ever so edgy” type of promotion, she’s actually just stood out as being  different simply  by being herself. She’s had years in the spotlight and has built up followers for being more genuine than most in her profession. For this reason alone we think she’s going to succeed with her album Cinderella’s Eyes out in Autumn.

There is another reason for backing her though and that’s the way she has prepared the album. Unlike Nadine she’s really taken her time over this release. We reported in August last year that she was secretly recording a record, yet she kept pretty quiet about it, getting her head down in the studio.

Also she’s taken control, but not too much. She helped pen her songs, which is good. At the same time she hasn’t had the stupidity to go blustering in and do it on all on her own, which is even better.

A performance on The X Factor would have made things look even more rosey, though as she’s signed to Universal this is fairly unlikely. Still we reckon our second favourite Girls Aloud member (for us Kimberley Walsh will always be number one) is going to do just fine.
