Music Happens Here

Leeds College of Music has a ton of alumni who have been providing the music for some of the UK’s top artists for since the 70s – a good example is Jim Cory who have played for the likes of Jamiroquai, Mark Ronson and Corinne Bailey Rae.  However, the college has been blazing a trail in producing one of the most inventive recordss currently on the market – and it’s entirely made up of artists from the college.

“Music Happens Here” has been turned students into professional artists, and most of all has given them a leg up commercially and an edge as recording artists. Though everyone is still pretty nascent as an artist, and it’s unfair to say who we found to be stand out artists on the basis on one song each, we did have a few favourites in the office:

Transcendental Lift Music Ensemble: The album does not focus on one type of music, and this group show there are no limits. Their genuinely hypnotic piece “Lucid Dream” is relaxing yet disturbing at the same time.

We Were All Made in China: Their well crafted rock pop song “Herd of Animals”  builds into a lovely chanted chorus, which serves as a memorable hook for the whole song.

Seb Forrest: “You’re Not So Special Now” shows off a bang on lyrics about the music industry wrapped in a direct, slightly eerie, voice.
