Morrissey Simply Must Return To Music

Morrisey must return to music

While I never want to bow to the “things were better in our day” brigade, I do have to admit there was a time when you couldn’t get away from rebellion in music. “God Save The Queen” by the Sex Pistols couldn’t have seemed further away though during the recent national out pouring of faux emotion at our figureheads’ wedding. While the news continued to break of the UK trying to urge Middle Eastern Countries to throw off dictators in the Arab Spring, we all sat about glorifying our own hang over symbol of national dictatorship.

Yet the world of music said nothing. The supposed zeitgeist of youth just nodded along. “Morrissey won’t be liking this” I thought on the day. A small glimmer of relief as I felt like a child again, forced to dance at a wedding when I just wanted to sit at the side minding my own business. At least someone would be feeling the pain more. But why the out of character silence from Mozza?

Well the answer has been revealed. On the fantastic fan site True To You, he revealed that he did speak out about them on Front Row on BBC 4, but was censored lest any negative comment go against the prevailing idiocy of the day. Morrissey was more than happy to point out nobody actually knows the new Mrs Windsor on a personal level, and that the celebrations had the thinnest of bases.

He also revealed that he had his new album ready to go – he just needs a record label. While this is good news for Morrissey fans, at the same time they will remember the long road to 2004′s “You Are The Quarry”- a time when he had the songs, but not the signed contract.

Once again though he has proved how much he is needed. Despite being in his 50s, he expressed for the younger generation what they should have been saying against their own set of royals.

Fan or not of the monarchy, you have to feel a bit sad that there’s been no substantial airing of other views.
