Traditional ideas of pop music have been a bit under fire in recently years as the unstoppable rise of R&B has continued. However, it seems to have found itself new territory by having a renaissance in the West End, with Sheridan Smith and Duncan James (the guy from Blue) at the forefront as the stage play the perform, a musical version of Legally Blonde, has just gone and won itself four prizes at the Whatsonstage Awards 2011.
Here’s what they have won:
- Best Actress in a Musical: Sheridan Smith
- Best Supporting Actress in a Musical: Jill Halfpenny
- Best New Musical: Legally Blonde
- Best Choreographer: Jerry Mitchell
According to Whatsonstage a total of 45,000 people voted, which is a fairly ringing endorsement for the production.
