Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga and Alicia Keys Give Up Social Media

Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga and Usher have all signed up to the Digital Life Sacrifice campaign in order to raise money for Keep a Child Alive. This all kicks off on Tuesday to coincide with World Aids Day.

Leigh Blake, the president of Keep a Child Alive, commented:

“I have a feeling that Lady Gaga is going to raise it all by herself. She has more than 7.2 million followers on Twitter and nearly 24 million fans on Facebook. She’s got a very mobilized fan base and that’s beautiful to watch and she’s able to draw their attention to these issues that are very important, you know, and that people follow it and act.”

While Alicia Keys said:

“It’s so important to shock you to the point of waking up…It’s not that people don’t care or it’s not that people don’t want to do something, it’s that they never thought of it quite like that.”

The charity will accept donations through bar codes and text messages and once it raises $1 million the embargo on social media will be over. All the participants will be showing special “Last Tweet and Testament” videos which will have them appearing in coffins to highlight the cause.

Any of the celebs taking part could raise the money on their own, so we’re looking forward to seeing the response.
