Joe McElderry looks set to become the most successful male X Factor winner ahead of the release of his new album on Monday. The pre sale orders for “Wide Awake” have beaten Shayne Ward’s first album by almost 50%. This is about two and a half times what Leon Jackson got…and a staggering four times what Steve Brookstein got.
Julian Monaghan, head of buying at Amazon.co.uk, commented “Joe McElderry has drummed up significantly more demand than previous male winners and could be the first in a new era of male X Factor successes. With last year’s runner-up Olly Murs already having a number one under his belt and Matt Cardle installed as firm favourite this year, it could be that we are going see much greater success from the male soloists than we have seen in years gone by.”
Perhaps the X Factor judges are becoming more savy in their choices of who will be more of a commercial success.

Joe will come nowhere near Shayne’s sales. I’m surprised people always believe things they read in the newspapapers! He will be lucky to sale 50,000 copies next week – Shayne’s first week sales were over 200,000. Pre-orders are higher for a variety of reasons – more people use sites like Amazon now (there is no Woolworths etc)than they did back in 2006, and Joe’s album has been up for pre-order for ten months (Shayne’s only three months). Joe’s single has been a bigger flop than even Leon Jackson’s!

Mel – the fact that his album has been up or pre-order for ten months doesn’t change the fact that he will outsell Shayne. If Shayne were that great his numbers would have been bigger, but they weren’t. Besides, who even remembers Shayne anymore? Of course Joe will be a bigger success than Shayne.

Perhaps you would like to review the situation in on week when Joe’s first week album sales are announced and let’s see who’s right shall we? PS. Notice Joe’s single is at number 21 this week – just one week in the top twenty!

Joe will never out-sell Shayne Ward in a million years. Shayne has a strong worldwide fanbase and has had number 1s all over the world.
This article is just spin put out by Joe’s PR team to get people talking.
Actual total sales are what matter, not just pre-sales, and in that respect Joe will have to do a LOT to reach the amount of records Shayne has sold.
Joe McElderry’s second single Ambitions only got to number 6 in the chart so to say that he is more successful than Shayne is crazy!
Plus, the article only mentions Amazon pre-orders. Shayne’s album has received more pre-orders than Joe’s on Play.com and HMV.

is handsome whereas Joe McEderry is just a pretty boy with a wobble in his voice that is annoying.
