Jessie J Lives Up To The Hype

Jessie J has lived up to her hype by claiming her first number one in the UK single charts.

When we first featured her, way back when in 2009 (yes we’re mentioning it to make us seem much more ahead of the curve than we are), she was just starting to be hyped and the future looked bright. When “Do It Like a Dude” stumbled into the charts at number 25 though, it looked like she would be another Brit school failure type – knowing how to play the media, but with her edgy attitude seemingly a bit stage school studied.

But alas no. She’s gone and hit the top spot with her second single “Price Tag”…and Do It Like a Dude continues to be a chart lingerer, now at number 8.

Meanwhile her debut album has been brought forward to the 28th of February to meet demand.

While we do like her though, we don’t want her to be characterised as some sort of independent artist battling to get her unique style recognised. As mentioned above she’s from the Brits school…alumni from which include Adele, Amy Winehouse and Kate Nash….and is signed to Universal. Now we’re not having a dig at her because of this, just want to stop the urban myth forming around her.
