Gerry Rafferty Passes Away

As a kid I made an ultimately abortive attempt to learn to play the Saxophone. During the three weeks of trying, one thing came up again and again – “ooooh you’ll be able to play Baker Street soon”. Well, the guy behind that song, Gerry Rafferty has sadly passed at the all too young age of 63 after a long battle with illness.

As a quick biography, he started his career as a member of The Humblebums – which also included Billy Connolly. He then went on to pursue a solo career. In 1971 he released his first solo album. Later he was to form Stealer’s Wheel, which of course found almost as much popularity as it did at the time when in 1992 it was included in Reservoir Dogs.

He will be greatly missed as an iconic independent musician and showed how popular music at its best as innovative and thoughtful.
