Eric Saade: Popular – Sweden's Eurovision Entry 2011

Who? Eric Saade

Entry for which Country? Sweden

Our Thoughts? Well, we certainly don’t think this song will be Popular (see what we did?).

We really don’t know how this one fell through the cracks. The Swedes has some amazing contenders this year. Their annual competition to pick the right song, Melodifestivalen, is as big as the X Factor over there and yet still they’ve come up with this.

The song expresses a rubbish sentiment (something reminiscent of Avril Lavigne’s early days), the dance moves are frankly embarrassing and the singing is out of tune at points. Come on Sweden, we love you, but we know you can do better.

Chances? Well we could be wrong. A whole country was polled on Popular, and they decided it was the best one go with. If they’ve spotted something we haven’t though it must be very, very well hidden.

His major chance of getting votes though comes from teenage girls, many of whom will no doubt be impressed by his chiseled yet youthful looks. Still we are not holding out much hope for this to get a top five place (top ten would still be more than it deserved).

We’re willing to bet Sweden will do better next year than this year though.
