With Simon Cowell taking the X Factor franchise to the US, his UK golden boy, Dermot O’Leary, has admitted he wants to also take on the role of host on the other side of the Atlantic. The problem is though that Ryan Seacrest has been doing a fairly solid job as the presenter of American Idol and is also up for the role.
Asked about the role Demort said: “It would be duplicitous of me to say that I wouldn’t be interested in it – of course I would. I do want to work out there.” He also commented of Seacrest that he is a “workaholic” and has “nerves of steel”, while not beigng too proud to admit that he himself would be terrified by the possible huge figures for the American show.
We’ll be rooting for Cowell to stick with the English boy over in the US.
At the same time O’Leary has been admitting he find it hard to keep a straight face backstage – “So you turn to the mum and dad and say ‘so what do you think?’ and then they say ‘they are brilliant.’ You’ve just got to keep the poker face.”
