Cher Lloyd and Katie Waissel Both Getting Unfair Treatment

Cher Lloyd Hot

Katie Waissel ended up being the pantomine villain of X Factor for alot of people this year, right form the moment Gamu was denied a place in the finals. Cher Lloyd wasn’t far behind, despite at one point being a hot favourite. Her backstage clips and set piece VTs before each live performance portrayed her as being fairly arrogant.

So why was this unfair? Well Cher Lloyd first. Now while we agree she does have a monotone, Forest Gump style even, of speaking, this seemed to be taken as some sort of serene calm, almost an entitlement to win. What few people took into consideration was most reports said she was bricking it backstage. Her voice was going to go one of two ways, endearing or annoying. The public ended up opting for the latter.

When contestants leave the X Factor though the public support dies away faster than the public hate…and in Cher Lloyd’s case she’s suffering this more than usual. Twitter has been alight with gypsy based abuse for her (fuelled in a big way by the C4 show). She’s getting stuff like this:

‘Ho I swear I jus seen half ur fam on channel 4.’

That’s not witty….it’s tweeted at the girl to have a go at her family…and its displaying the sort of chavvy behaviour that people deride gypsies for.

So has Cher Lloyd done anything to bring this on herself? Well if so we don’t see it. Here’s her at GAY recently…OK not the best performance..but look how excited she is to be on stage at the end of it. She probs got home to find more people calling her a gypo :-(

So what about Katie Waissel. Well ever since she got picked over Gamu the public, which was not her decision, the public went mad. It was a shock that she was picked over Aiden Grimshaw too…but it was a public vote, not a judges decision. She also went through one of the most embarassing incidents possible as it was revealed her nan was an active prostitute. Again she put a brave face on things and came out week after week and handled herself with huge dignity.

Since the show she says:

“I don’t know why I was so widely hated…At the end of the day it’s a TV show – it’s entertainment. The public hated me because they were told to. The power of editing is beautiful.”

This is a balanced statement above what most people could give in face of such wide scale personal digs. At the same time she has revealed that she hasn’t heard from Cheryl Cole since the show…yet didn’t lay into her, which again is graceful from someone who has been thrown into the cold.

I’d like to see them both make a successful career…even though I’m not big fan of Cher Lloyd’s music….just as a reward for being so tough.

  2. Great to see someone put some decent perspective on all this media nonsense. both girls deserve a break and are very talented in their own unique ways. I agree wholeheartedly with the article

  3. Cher Lloyd Will be the biggest Artist Walking On This Planet When Her album Comes out..Big Respect To The Young Girl Living Her Dream! X

  4. Am surprised and pleased to read a well balanced article. Cher will do very well for herself, can’t wait to see her at the X-Fctor tour.

  5. Like you, I’m not Cher Lloyd’s biggest fan but I sincerely hope she proves all her detractors wrong and forges a successful career in the industry, the online anti-Cher campaigns are despicable to say the least. Even though the creative arts industry produces more credible and precocious talents than Cher, people have to be mindful that she’s a 17-yr-old adolescent who as well as trying to hone her talent, is also undergoing the hormonal stress associated with the physiological change from child to adulthood. Her perceived arrogance can arguably be attributed to this metamorphosis, most teenagers become rebellious at this stage in life but unlike the Malvern Marvel, most teenagers don’t have a media spotlight on them at this biological time.

I have a lot of sympathy for Katie, I feel that she was made a scapegoat for all the wrong reasons which consequently diminished her performance capacity. A real shame because I think had she had encouragement instead of discouragement, she could have run the show’s favourites real close.

  6. Cher Lloyd fights through the hate and seemingly undeserved abuse on the Internet to deliver mediocre performances on-stage and an arrogant and cocky persona off-stage. She may hit the spot for the masses of teenage binge drinkers but for the more down-to-earth, morally sound average Joe, Cher is simply a wasted album.

  7. I thought Cher Lloyd was the biggest talent on Xfactor. She could do ballads, rap, big stage numbers … I loved it! Pity the gutter press used her to try to sell papers … and internet blogs with nothing original to say jumped on the bandwaggon too. The truth is, any one of us would have been scared sh**less to get up there in front of a live TV audience of millions and do what she did. She was also scared sh**less but she had the bottle to do it. At least people should give her credit for that.

  8. @ Mr Joe Posh. I see from your comment that you are yet another of the gutter press victims, gullable enough to soak up their stories like a sponge. While i respect your opinion, i disagree with “to deliver mediocre performances on-stage” in my humble opinion that title belongs to someone like Rebecca Ferguson for example. I thought she was very boring with her on-stage performances and at times, not even in touch with the song, smiling at a point in the song when you shouldn’t be, for example. She is mainstream though along with Matt Cardle, which is what most of the x show’s viewers are and all that the show have done in previous years. It has cultured it’s viewers to be boring, down-to-earth average joes who think that talent only comes in the form of boring balled singing females or males with high pitched singing voices. This year they did something different but it’s viewers couldn’t handle different! Cher isn’t mainstream, she’s beyond that show and always was and you may be surprised to hear that she hits the spot not only for “the masses of teenage binge drinkers” as you call them but also pre-teens, old folks in their 70′s and all ages in between, including the masses of non-mainstream alternative music fans. I’m 41 and have her album on pre-order!

@timbeck. I agree with you timbeck but i didn’t think she was, i know she was :D

  9. I love here, shes one of a kind… she’s far different from typical contestant… She can’t wait to see her on her first ever album!!!! :)

  12. When her career flops and she too turns to prostitution I will be first in the queue – I’m her biggest fan.

  13. Strange comliment
