Well, when we say it’s a leak, it seems Britney Spears herself has decided to give everyone an above board listen to the album. Ahead of its release next week she has allowed it to be streamed in full online. It does not disappoint and we’ve embedded it here for our TMM readers:
So we’ve spent the morning listening to the album and full, and while we had been cynical when Britters called it “raw and edgy” (a phrase itself that has been used so much that it would only be “raw and edgy” not to use it), we’ve got to say this is bloody good. It’s alot more heavy on the bass than we’re used to from Britney, but is still pure pop (the day she goes over to do some sort of R ‘n’ B album, we know it’s time to shut up shop).
So what’s good about it?
Britney has had more to prove recently. The advent of Lady Gaga has for the first real time made Britney perhaps look properly like yesterday’s pop queen. However, this is a bold statement – there is nothing tame here, every tune is seemingly designed to be played at a disco. The team behind her have really played their A Game, and “Till The World Ends” is a contender for best pop song of the year, and it kicks off the album and sets the pace brilliantly.
It’s also a bit less autotuned than we expected…though this isn’t saying that much given how much we expected it to be tinkered with.
What’s bad about it?
Not too much to be honest. There’s just a few minor things. Firstly, the album never quite lives up to its first track. Secondly, the bass can get a bit samey after a while. By the time you get to “Big Fat Bass” (which says the word bass about 500 times), you might be longing for a slowed down love song – but one doesn’t turn up to the last song. When it does though it’s reeeaaaalllyyy good…..it’s basically a song of Brit falling in love with a real wrong ‘un and is quite reminiscent of Britney’s earliest work. It’s a good round off to a great album.
UPDATE: So we just listened again….and have to say these tracks are really growers. This is a 5 star album.
