Amary Vassili: Sognu – France's Eurovision Entry 2011

Who? Amary Vassili

Country? France

Our Thoughts? We’re really not sure about this one. While Sognu got a ton of critical acclaim across Europe, we’re not quite feeling it in the same way as others and we don’t think the voters will too. The song is supposedly a rousing classical opera type number, but it doesn’t have that killer hook that we thinkĀ get’s Eurovision fans to pick up the phone and vote. For us, it’s all drama and no action. We obviously don’t understand the lyrics, putting us in the same boat as the rest most of the continent and maybe these add some colour. Without this though we did find ourselves becoming a bit bored and we certainly expected more from the frontrunner.

When we heard Alexander Rybak for the first time two years ago it was obvious it was going to win. Lena also made us bop around enough that we had a pretty good feeling it would do well. With this song we seem to be missing the point.

Chances? The bookies have this down as the favourite at 6 to 4, which is crazy when you consider how many countries are in the final.
