The Mobos look like they will be lacking a bit of personality this year as it’s been announced they will be hosted by Alesha Dixon. Now that could be fine – after all its a classic award ceremony set up to have a pretty, fairly nice though uninteresting lady hosting in tandem with a funny man.
However, the funny man role is filled by no other than humour vacuum and Radio One DJ Reggie Yates – though if you’re unfamiliar with him it should be pointed out he has more characteristics of a local commercial radio DJ.
Putting our bitching to one side though, Alesha seemed faily upbeat about the awards commenting:
“I hosted it years ago with LL Cool J. I’ve performed with Mis-Teeq so for me it’s like coming home…I don’t even think the show is about music of black origin any more. It’s just about great British music”
It is true that the mobos now seem to be about more than just music of black origin – but this is probably more to do with British pop music having a huge shift in focus towards R&B over the last 10 years. Ironically though, this makes the Mobos seem a little insignificant, and just a sort of Brits-light award ceremony.
